Burning Spear - Live Aux Vieilles Charrues '99

How did Burning Spear get his artist name? Had he bought a common looking spear at a flea market, but when he returned home and later went sleeping he woke up in the middle of the night because it had mysteriously started burning, as if it was a sign from Jah to reveal his musical path of life? Or was it something else?

This live concert presented here was recorded at a big yearly festival in France, enjoy

  1. Burning Spear was originally Rodney's group, named after a military award given by Jomo Kenyatta, the first President of an independent Kenya,[7] and included bass singer Rupert Willington

  2. His birth name is Winston Rodney. His stage name comes from a category of Kenyan state commendations, the Order of the Burning Spear. His philosophy and music have been greatly influenced by the life of former Kenyan president Jomo Kenyatta, who is credited as the founding father of the independent nation. ‘Jomo’ is translated in English as ‘burning spear.’
